Apart from being a very good film with one of the best cameo's in of all time with Bill Murrays brief screen time, Zombieland has one of the best pieces of advice you can ever receive. Rule number 11 enjoy the little things. In the film For Tallahassee it's the idea of a Twinkie but it can really be anything can't it?
Everyone has different things that do that for them. I know of one of closest friends who smiles every time that they hear the word balls, though the same friend also smiles each time they pass wind so maybe they are just weird? Well they are friends with me so that should be a foregone conclusion. Life is hard and if there's something out there that brings a smile to your face and it hurts no one then how can it be a bad thing? It can be anything, the smell of fresh cut grass, a cold iron bru on a summers day, receiving a meme from a friend, seeing a rainbow they can turn a bad mood around instantly and make a day just a little bit better.
Now is the time to admit to a few things. Every time I hear Chesney Hawkes The One And Only, I can't help but sing along with a big smile on my face. Just like every time I hear the theme tune from Ducktales it just makes me feel better.....Life is like a hurricane.... Back when I was superstar DJ and by that I mean I used to try and play some songs at various student nights in the SubClub I tried to put on a kids TV Show theme every week, some hit the spot better but Gummi Bears and Ducktales definitely left people smiling and laughing amongst themselves and in some cases bouncing around as though they were on gummi berry juice.
Whenever I see a ladder set up I smile and think of doing my best Jeff Hardy impression and wanting to do a swanton bomb onto someone's prone body. I love that feeling of getting into a clean, freshly made bed, snuggling down under the duvet, pulling it up around your neck and getting all comfy. Hearing a good joke or seeing something out of the ordinary, a good interaction with a stranger which happens a lot on my early morning walks to work, it's like an unspoken bond between us Lincolnshire folk, if it's before 8am and you find yourself walking down the road then you must say hello to each person you pass but it never fails to put a smile on face as I carry on with my walk.
As I've gotten older, I've learnt to appreciate the smaller things that little bit more, spending time with friends and family .being a big one. Now I don't want to get to morbid here but in the last few months I've had two close friends, both around my age get diagnosed with life altering illnesses, now hopefully in time they will both make a full recovery (I've got fingers, toes and everything else crossed for them) but it did make me think about things in a different way. They both have young families and have both been through it the past few years and now this has been thrown at them. I am positive knowing the both of them that will overcome this and get back to where they want to be and I'll be there to bug them every step along the way!
So that's the advice I'm offering to you all today, enjoy the little things, because at the end of the day those little things make all the difference.
