Practical Jokers

I love a good practical joke, during my younger years I was very proficient in pulling off some that looking back were how can I put it not very nice. Laxatives in drinks, putting a nine volt battery upside down in a urinal so that when the urine stream hit it the person using the facilities would get a little shock in a delicate area, sending a video of a clown via Facebook Messenger to someone who was deathly afraid of them all rank in the maybe I shouldn't of done those but it seemed funny at the time.

Another year older and I think a little wiser

So this week saw me complete another trip around the sun and add another year to my total. I've never been a huge one for big birthday celebrations and this year was no different. I've never felt the need for big parties or big events and normally I treat the day like it's any other. This year wasn't much different. I spent my actual birthday watching some of my favourite films of all time The Naked Gun (original not remake), Hot Fuzz and The Goonies, after having lunch out with my mum, nan and two aunts, yes I had officially joined the Furnell females club!

2025 A year in review

A new year is upon us and I think everyone has that little look back at what has occurred to them during the previous twelve months and try and see if it'd had been a good one, a bad one or one that could be improved on. Well that is if my facebook feed is anything to go by anyway!

Eternity is a long time

On a recent meet up with the legend that is Emma, we went to the cinema to watch the new release Eternity starring Elizabeth Olsen and MIles Teller. It takes a simple concept in the afterlife you have to choose one thing to do for eternity. It can be anything, now obviously the film isn't as straight forward as that, they is a love triangle involving two husbands  who both had the same wife, one for two years before dying whilst away at war and one for 65 years. Both had different ideas on how they wanted to spend there afterlife's with her,

Friends

One thing I've learnt in the past couple of years is that friends are important. I don't honestly think I would be here today without them all.  Whether it be from the drunken escapades with drunk phone calls to the other side of the world to the endless chats about anything and everything, I want to say from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I'm not going to name names they know who they are and how much I value them.  It's been great not only looking to our shared past but also making plans for the future.

It's a good news bad news type of situation

The title of this post says it all really and yes it's to do with my lump or Rameses as I've come to know it as. It's gotten bigger which is bad, more fluid build up which is also bad but the good news is that I finally got to see a specialist and he has decided to slice my head open and remove the thing instead of draining it and hoping it doesn't refill again. Which is in my opinion is good news. Well maybe not the slicing open bit but the removal part YES YES YES!!!

A year in the making

So it's been exactly a year since I began this list of 100 things and so far I've completed 14 of them, which isn't a bad effort. At this rate it'll take nine years for me to complete everything...... It was never going to be easy but I would love to cross them off a little quicker, who knows  I may set myself 100 more then!

Child of the 90's

If I've said it once I've said it a million times the 90's were a great time to grow up in. The world didn't seem as broken as it is today, it wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination. We had awful conflicts going on in The Gulf and The Balkans, the economy was just about as messed up as it is today and politicians still couldn't be trusted to deliver what they promised the masses. So what made it so good? And why recently has it dawned on me why we had it so good.

It's been a while

Separating the art from the artist.

I can picture the scene now, the time is pretty much any time between September 2001 until July 2002. The place is the kitchen in flat H, in Liddle Hall, Bute Street, Luton. There would be the usual crowd, Kev, Scott, Big Dave and myself.  Anna the Greek telling Scott to fuck off because he'd be doing something to annoy her. Abs would be hanging around trying to get Scott to notice her. Helen, Nathan, Jim, Kay, and a variety of other colourful characters would make guest appearances in our little world. We'd no doubt have Tony Hawkes 2 or This Is Football on the 12" portable TV and the little portable hi-fi would be the battleground for what music was being played.

Human Nature I guess?

I don't know if it's just me or if everyone does it but I always picture worse case scenarios in my head. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong in these thoughts that go through my mind, is that normal or not? I'm not sure these days to be honest.

Enjoying the little things.

Apart from being a very good film with one of the best cameo's in of all time with Bill Murrays brief screen time, Zombieland has one of the best pieces of advice you can ever receive. Rule number 11 enjoy the little things. In the film For Tallahassee it's the idea of a Twinkie but it can really be anything can't it?

Challenge 14 Completed

World War II, the scene of many atrocities, where the worst of humanity was on full display to the world. We all know about the bad side of things, Hitler and the Nazi party trying to turn the world into there own warped version of what life should be. But and it's a big but it did bring to the front some of the pure genius that lies within mankind. This challenge was all about acknowledging one group of those men and women who  did there best to make the world a better place.

Songs part 2

I did a blog post a little while ago about songs that remind me of people and said there were so many more. I even had one or two people ask me what songs remind me of them so in the spirit of the Muppets...we're doing a sequel!! It also helps that a song came on my random play that made someone pop into my head that I hadn't thought of in years.......so let's lead with that one shall we?

Challenge 13 Completed

I used to be a proper hardcore gamer spending hours playing the latest releases, playing a range of genres from platform to sports to strategy and first person shooters. Some of my fondest early memories are of playing games with my friends. You say the words GCSE's and I won't tell you about the hours spent studying I'll tell you about mammoth Goldeneye marathons around Jonesy's house when we were supposed to be studying. a large proportion of my first year at university was spent playing horse on Tony Hawkes skating or our weekly CFC tournament on This I is football.

Single Pringle

I laughed out loud recently when a friend got referred to as a Single Pringle. It was said it in such a nonchalant way, as though it were a common phrase that everyone single person in existence could use to describe someone. At the time I laughed out loud and said something along the lines of how silly a phrase it was.....but I find myself using it more and more as time progresses and actually liking the phrase.

Challenge 12 Completed

In case you hadn't guessed yet I'm a big history geek and in particular British history. I think it started when I was at Gipsey Bridge, when Mr Jones told us all about these powerful kings and queens of years gone by, of battles won and lost, none of them really gripped me like the story of Henry VIII though. In fact my topic folder all about the Tudors and Stuarts got countywide recognition as being an excellent study into the time period.
