It's been a while

It's been a couple of weeks since I last posted anything and I like to think I've got a good reason, I'm not just being lazy it's more of a taking care of myself situation and trying to get my head wrapped around what's happening.

Separating the art from the artist.

I can picture the scene now, the time is pretty much any time between September 2001 until July 2002. The place is the kitchen in flat H, in Liddle Hall, Bute Street, Luton. There would be the usual crowd, Kev, Scott, Big Dave and myself.  Anna the Greek telling Scott to fuck off because he'd be doing something to annoy her. Abs would be hanging around trying to get Scott to notice her. Helen, Nathan, Jim, Kay, and a variety of other colourful characters would make guest appearances in our little world. We'd no doubt have Tony Hawkes 2 or This Is Football on the 12" portable TV and the little portable hi-fi would be the battleground for what music was being played.

Human Nature I guess?

I don't know if it's just me or if everyone does it but I always picture worse case scenarios in my head. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong in these thoughts that go through my mind, is that normal or not? I'm not sure these days to be honest.

Enjoying the little things.

Apart from being a very good film with one of the best cameo's in of all time with Bill Murrays brief screen time, Zombieland has one of the best pieces of advice you can ever receive. Rule number 11 enjoy the little things. In the film For Tallahassee it's the idea of a Twinkie but it can really be anything can't it?

Challenge 14 Completed

World War II, the scene of many atrocities, where the worst of humanity was on full display to the world. We all know about the bad side of things, Hitler and the Nazi party trying to turn the world into there own warped version of what life should be. But and it's a big but it did bring to the front some of the pure genius that lies within mankind. This challenge was all about acknowledging one group of those men and women who  did there best to make the world a better place.

Songs part 2

I did a blog post a little while ago about songs that remind me of people and said there were so many more. I even had one or two people ask me what songs remind me of them so in the spirit of the Muppets...we're doing a sequel!! It also helps that a song came on my random play that made someone pop into my head that I hadn't thought of in years.......so let's lead with that one shall we?

Challenge 13 Completed

I used to be a proper hardcore gamer spending hours playing the latest releases, playing a range of genres from platform to sports to strategy and first person shooters. Some of my fondest early memories are of playing games with my friends. You say the words GCSE's and I won't tell you about the hours spent studying I'll tell you about mammoth Goldeneye marathons around Jonesy's house when we were supposed to be studying. a large proportion of my first year at university was spent playing horse on Tony Hawkes skating or our weekly CFC tournament on This I is football.

Single Pringle

I laughed out loud recently when a friend got referred to as a Single Pringle. It was said it in such a nonchalant way, as though it were a common phrase that everyone single person in existence could use to describe someone. At the time I laughed out loud and said something along the lines of how silly a phrase it was.....but I find myself using it more and more as time progresses and actually liking the phrase.

Challenge 12 Completed

In case you hadn't guessed yet I'm a big history geek and in particular British history. I think it started when I was at Gipsey Bridge, when Mr Jones told us all about these powerful kings and queens of years gone by, of battles won and lost, none of them really gripped me like the story of Henry VIII though. In fact my topic folder all about the Tudors and Stuarts got countywide recognition as being an excellent study into the time period.

Challenge 11 completed

It's been a little while since I ticked off something off my list with work being busy and other commitment's but as I had 72 hours off from the normal world I thought I would check off a couple, this being the first one that I did.

'Bro'

The Bro Code, we've all heard about it before, such things as 'Bro's before hoes' being commonplace, but what does it actually mean? We hear characters like Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother endlessly quote different rules from it. A little research and apparently there are 150 rules contained within his version of it. Mostly concerned with close male friends and there obligations to each other, and in ways that they should aid them in the pursuit of women.

Anniversaries

Now before I get into the bones of this post, I want to make it crystal clear that I'm in a good place now. I haven't had any of those thoughts in a long time, my mental health is in a much better place than it was back then and even though there are some depressing moments coming up in this post you can rest assured that I'm doing ok and that these things are things I've discussed in therapy and with friends and have worked through to make some conclusions that for some may seem strange but they work for me.

Totally unacceptable

If you follow me on Facebook then you'll know that I have a semi regular series entitled things you'll only hear in Boston Bowl. Now normally these are funny things like one of my staff members telling me that she wonders how she managed to get grated cheese in her phone case, to the weird ones like do you think it's weird that I'm wearing my brothers underwear, to random things that customers say like "I hope you don't finger my Guinness while I'm gone". I could go on here but let me assure you they are all 100% genuine.

Fitness....

I used to be fit, not in the attractive way, I don't think I could ever claim to be that in a million years! No in the actual health wise, I used to be a very fit, agile young person, who could play pretty much any sport half decently.  Football was my chief source of exercise, but I also played rounders and cricket for the school. I used to even go for cross country runs around the Lincolnshire countryside just for the fun of it. It also wasn't unheard of me to play the occasional game of handball or hockey and on one occasion netball.

Songs

In a previous post I spoke of songs that remind of certain situations or events that I found myself in, this one is a bit more of the same, but more specific, songs that remind me of certain people. I only have to hear the opening bars of certain songs and there face pops into my head, or maybe it's a certain lyric and pop there they are running around bringing back memories.

Confidence

Anyone who knows me would say the one thing I lack is confidence, in fact some people from my past might claim that I  suffer from over confidence sometimes. Little do they know that in the past I've battled with self confidence to the degree where it almost crippled my day to day life.

Live Music at it's best

Music is all around us in our day to day lives. The songs we hear on TV and radio, the ever present background to our life. It can pump us up, chill us out, remind us of days gone by, make us think of loved ones, of enemies, of lovers and everything in between. That being said there is nothing like live music being played in front of you.

Challenge 10 Completed

Another one crossed off the list and that makes it 10% completed, I never expected to cross them off this quickly! This was one of the easier ones to do and I was down in London again (seems I spend more time down there than in Boston at the minute!) I thought I would cross off number 88, a trip to The London Mithraerium.
